Darwin Award Candidate...Warning: Graphic
Negligent discharge story...for your viewing pleasure.:smokin:
http://dishhead.home.insightbb.com/leg.html Most of us have had one of those moments...thankfully it wasn't fatal in his case. |
Re: Darwin Award Candidate...Warning: Graphic
Yep - I hear alot of these stories. I have not had a negligent discharge, but for most, it seems like it's just a matter of time. You just pray you don't hit anyone including yourself.

Re: Darwin Award Candidate...Warning: Graphic
I seem to attract idiots at the gun range. One guy waved me over to ask for help with installing a fancy sight on his .22 pistol. He was trying to fit the accessory to it while it had a round in the chamber. FFS.
Once a guy saw me sweep some people as I was policing my brass. He chewed me out, and I am a better man for it. Never point at anything you are not willing to obliterate. Keep your finger out of the trigger guard. Assume it's loaded. This guy was lucky -- there are major blood vessels in that part of the thigh. Death is a real possibility. |
Re: Darwin Award Candidate...Warning: Graphic

Re: Darwin Award Candidate...Warning: Graphic
LT Dan, I don't think you have issues with getting upset at some fool waving a loaded gun around. It sound like common sense to me.

Re: Darwin Award Candidate...Warning: Graphic
Looks as if he's copped some nerve damage, can't feel the sole of his foot properly on the leg that was shot. Pretty common apparently, as they can't really go knitting nerves together easily without doing more damage in there or introducing more possible infection, and it's more important that they stop him bleeding to death.
I was told this by a range officer: "We had some bright spark once at a shooting range query the power of a .22 round, so he decided to prove just how weak the .22 was by shooting himself in the forearm. Yes he shot himself in the arm ladies and gentlemen. Needless to say, his arm shot at nearly point blank range by a .22 resulted a broken bone or two in the forearm and permanent nerve damage on the arm, and possibly hand." An airsoft or BB gun can take your eye out, a permanent life-long injury. I respect any firearm, even ones that people think are "weak". |
Re: Darwin Award Candidate...Warning: Graphic
It's a very good posting--I've read it elsewhere. And as a regular shooter and reloader, he calls this a negligent discharge, and doesn't try to blame anything or anyone but himself. That isn't the usual Darwin profile. This is something any of us can do, and is graphic reminder that The Rules are always in play.

Re: Darwin Award Candidate...Warning: Graphic
I have had two in maybe 10,000 hours with a gun in my hands
Bolt action 410 shotgun on my hip pointing up into a tree. Finger wandered on to the trigger,"thought" it was on safe. Age14-15 Model 94 Winchester, racking the gun empty with frozen hands inside ice encrusted gloves, while trying to catch the shells before they fell into the snow. Bullet went into the ground about five feet in front of me. Age 25-26 Also have had bullets 'tha-whack' into trees within 15 feet of me twice while hunting |
Re: Darwin Award Candidate...Warning: Graphic
A friend once told me that every gun - at least once in its life - will shoot at least one "empty" bullet that is hiding in it somewhere.
I'm usually not one for Native American mysticism, but needless, to say, this one makes a little more sense to me and I try and treat each firearm as if it is loaded. |
